Governor de Jongh Leads VI Government Representatives at Meetings with Environmental Protection Agency Official in New York

Governor John P. de Jongh, Jr. departed the territory on Sunday afternoon for two days of meetings with U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Regional Administrator Judith Enck in New York.

The governor is joined by the leadership of the Water and Power Authority, Waste Management Authority and the Department of Planning and Natural Resources. 

De Jongh said on Monday that discussions between WAPA and EPA will focus on “the authority’s request for the use approval an emergency generator which would allow WAPA’s to begin a schedule of maintenance on its power-generating units.” He said DPNR’s discussion will center around air emission standards while WMA will go over recycling plans for the territory.”

Executive Director Hugo Hodge, Jr., Chief Operating Officer Gregory Rhymer are representing WAPA; DPNR Commissioner Alicia Barnes and WMA Executive Director May Adams Cornwall are also in attendance.

De Jongh will return at mid-week. In his absence and in accordance with provisions of the Revised Organic Act of 1954, as amended, Lt. Governor Gregory R. Francis is serving as Acting Governor.
