Governor de Jongh Extends Official Period of Mourning

The family of the late former Virgin Islands Governor Juan Francisco Luis has announced funeral arrangements for next Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, June 14-16, 2011.

The body will lie-in-state at Government House in Christiansted, St. Croix on Wednesday, June 15, 2011 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Christiansted on Thursday, June 16, 2011 at 9 a.m. Interment will follow at Kingshill Cemetery.

On Friday, Governor John P. de Jongh, Jr. extended the period of mourning in the territory until sunset of the day of Governor Luis’ interment. “This period of mourning is a fitting tribute to a dedicated public servant who served the Virgin Islands admirably as a true public servant,” de Jongh said.

The Luis family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Governor Juan F. Luis Hospital for the sole purpose of establishing the "Governor Juan F. Luis Foundation."

Additionally, tributes to the former governor and photos should be e-mailed to governorjuanfluistributes@gmail.com.
