Governor John P. de Jongh, Jr. departed the Virgin Islands on Thursday morning for Washington, D.C. where he and First Lady Cecile de Jongh will attend commencement exercises for their oldest son, John P. de Jongh III. J.P. de Jongh graduates from American University over the weekend.
De Jongh remains in Washington D.C. through the first part of next week to attend meetings with Obama administration officials and congressional leaders regarding issues pertinent to the territory.
The governor will return to the Virgin Islands by mid-week. In his absence and in accordance with the provisions of the Revised Organic Act of 1954, as amended, Lt. Governor Gregory R. Francis will serve as Acting Governor.
