Governor John P. de Jongh, Jr. said today that in light of the upcoming climax of the 2011 Carnival celebration which will result in the closure of government offices on Thursday, May 5th and Friday, May 6th, the Department of Finance has adjusted the timeline for government employees to receive their bi-weekly salary payments.
Led by Commissioner Angel E. Dawson, Jr., de Jongh said the Department of Finance has taken steps to ensure that government employees who are routinely paid with a physical paycheck, will receive those checks on Wednesday morning and all employees who receive their payroll via direct deposit will have their accounts credited by Thursday’s payday, May 5, 2011.
Dawson explained that these adjustments were made to allow employees who receive a physical paycheck to be afforded the opportunity to conduct any banking transactions before banks close on Friday, May 6th and Saturday, May 7th in observance of Carnival. “Direct deposit transactions will be credited by May 5th as scheduled. Access to these funds is not dependent on the operating hours of banking institutions in the Virgin Islands,” he said.
