Governor John P. de Jongh, Jr. departed the territory this morning for meetings in Florida with executives of cruise lines whose ships call on the Virgin Islands. The governor will be joined at the meetings by Tourism Commissioner Beverly Nicholson-Doty and V.I. Port Authority Governing Board Chairman Robert O’ Connor, Jr.
The discussion will focus on the government’s interest in expanding cruise ship calls to the Virgin Islands. The following cruise lines are expected to be represented at the meeting: Carnival Corporation, Celebrity Cruises, Disney Cruise Lines, Norweigan Cruise Lines, MSC Cruises and Princess Cruises.
De Jongh returns to the territory on Tuesday night. In his absence and in accordance with provisions of the 1954 Revised Organic Act as amended, Lt. Governor Gregory R. Francis will serve as Acting Governor.
