Governor John P. de Jongh, Jr. said Monday that ceremonies to mark the annual observance of Transfer Day will be held on St. Croix this year. We have pitched our full support to the annual celebration hosted by the St. Croix Landmarks Society at the Lawaetz Museum on March 31st, de Jongh said.
The governor encourages everyone to join him and members of his administration at that event, which will be followed by a Ruins Ramble in Estate Little La Grange Village. De Jongh said that a single Transfer Day ceremony will avoid the redundancy of multiple events on different islands. This year, it is proper to put together our public resources into supporting the St. Croix celebration of Transfer Day hosted each year by the Landmarks Society. This event truly reflects the significance of this important Virgin Islands holiday, de Jongh said.
I remind all Virgin Islanders, as they always do, to open their hearts to visiting Danes, the governor added.
The March 31st ceremony on St. Croix will feature musical selections, entertainment by students of various elementary schools, remarks by Virgin Islands government officials, remarks by the Consul General of Denmark in New York, Ambassador Jarl Frijs-Madsen and the keynote address by Claus Marquart, co-founder of Hӧjskolen, DK.
Additionally, a commemorative booklet is being produced by the Office of the Governor in conjunction with the St. Croix Landmarks Society as part of the 94th observance of Transfer Day in the Virgin Islands.
