Commissioner St. Claire N. Williams of the Department of Housing, Parks and Recreation today reported on two of his department’s capital projects that are ongoing on the island of St. Thomas. Commissioner Williams outlined that phase II of the enhancement and repairs of the Lionel Roberts Stadium has commenced where the scope of work includes renovation and improvement of the concession facility and replacement of the outdoor bleachers. “We are making every effort to complete these improvements prior to the commencement of the St. Thomas Carnival activities because these improvements will be of great asset for the carnival events in the Lionel Roberts Stadium”, Commissioner Williams emphasized.
Commissioner Williams also noted that the renovation of the interior of the Winston Raymo Recreation Center which is located adjacent to the Lionel Roberts Stadium is moving along very well and commended the ongoing working partnership between the Department of Housing, Parks and Recreation and International Capital Management, an EDC firm that is donating their time and efforts into this project to make it a reality. Commissioner Williams outlined that the scope of work includes renovation of the restrooms to make them handicapped accessible and the complete renovation of the interior of the center. “We are very pleased with these two projects and request the cooperation of everyone to avoid the construction area and follow all posted safety signs while we work steadily to complete these projects “, Commissioner Williams concluded.
