Bicycle Rodeo Set for St. John

Governor John P. de Jongh, Jr. invites all Virgin Islands bicycle enthusiasts to St. John this Saturday to participate in a bicycle rodeo, as hosted by the St. John Community Integration Team (CIT), a civilian volunteer group of the VI Police Department.

The event will be held from 9 a.m. to noon at the Coral Bay Ball Field, and will then move to the Cruz Bay National Park Ball Field in the afternoon to resume between 1 and 4 p.m.

Participants will have the opportunity to learn about the basics of bicycle safety, maintenance and mechanics. As a community service, the group is reaching out to the youth of St. John in an effort to raise awareness on children’s bicycling safety.

Virgin Islands Bureau of Motor Vehicles staff will be at Coral and Cruz bays to help individuals register their bicycles and obtain bicycle licenses. Children who complete a special course will receive free helmets.

The St. John bicycle rodeo is a partnership effort of the CIT, the St. John National Park Service, the St. John Administrator’s office, the Virgin Islands Police Department, the Virgin Islands Bureau of Motor Vehicles and other private and government agencies.

Governor de Jongh encourages St. John residents and all Virgin Islanders to participate in the bicycle rodeo on Saturday and wishes all rodeo attendees a safe and enjoyable event.
