On behalf of his wife, Cecile, and the people of the Virgin Islands, Governor John P. de Jongh, Jr. this morning expressed heartfelt sympathies to the family and friends of longtime and noted high school teacher and assistant principal Jose Enrique Carrillo. Carrillo, the brother of Government House Chief of Protocol Raul Carrillo, died this morning at his family home on St. Thomas.
“It was with great sadness that I received the news today of the death of Jose Enrique Carrillo, a man who served with distinction as a cornerstone of All Saints Cathedral School for many years,” de Jongh said today. “Several members of my Cabinet and members of my Senior and Executive Staff received the building blocks of their formal education at All Saints Cathedral School, under the watchful eye of Mr. Carrillo,” the governor added.
De Jongh recalled Carrillo as a true gentleman, an excellent teacher and as a counselor to many students who attended and graduated from All Saints School. For many years, he coached the school’s Quiz Bowl team. In later years and prior to his retirement, Carrillo served as the school’s Assistant Principal.
“He dedicated his life to All Saints and to its students. Many the many memories of times spent with Mr. Carrillo assuage the great sadness that his death has caused. We pray for his eternal rest,” de Jongh said.
