Governor Congratulates Virgin Islands Writer on New Collection of Essays,
Articles on French Heritage

Governor John P. de Jongh, Jr. welcomed St. Thomas-based writer Anne-Marie Danet to Government House, St. Thomas Wednesday. Ms. Danet is a life-long writer on French heritage and culture, and presented the Chief Executive with a bound collection of essays and articles previously published in the Virgin Islands Daily News over a fifteen year time period.

“This collection of essays represents a years-long labor of love and a life’s passion for sharing the story of one’s personal ancestry and heritage with the community at large. Ms. Danet has accomplished a milestone in putting together this unique collection of personal writings regarding French heritage in the Virgin Islands, and I congratulate her on this tremendous achievement,” Governor de Jongh said.

Ms. Danet is originally from St. Thomas and began writing on the history and culture of the French “to teach young people of their roots and ancestry.” Noting that a sizeable population of Virgin Islands residents has origins in neighboring islands, including St. Barts and the French West Indies, Ms. Danet hopes to raise awareness on the history and culture of Virgin Islanders with French ancestry through her writings on a variety of topical issues.

The collection of writings entitled “French Heritage Collection” will be available for purchase at Dockside Bookshop in Havensight Mall on Saturday, December 12th from 2:00-3:00 p.m. on St. Thomas.
