DEJONGH ADDRESSES WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT AND THE DIAGEO-USVI GOVERNMENT PARTNERSHIP AT SOUTHERN GOVERNORS CONFERENCE Governor John P. deJongh, Jr., attended the 74th Annual Meeting of the Southern Governor’s Association from August 8-11, 2008. The three-day conference featured a variety of topics, including a roundtable discussion with U.S. Department of Labor Secretary Elaine Chao on issues impacting workforce development; a discussion with regional Federal Reserve Bank Presidents; and a panel discussion focusing on innovations and trends in government and in public/private partnerships. During the conference, deJongh also participated in several press conferences with his fellow governors from Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and West Virginia. At the events, deJongh discussed workforce development issues and the recently announced public-private partnership with Diageo, plc for the construction and operation of a high capacity distillery on the island of St. Croix.
