GOVERNOR EXPRESSES CONDOLENCES TO FAMILY OF ARMY SERGEANT ERROL JAMES

From West Virginia this weekend, Governor John P. deJongh, Jr. expressed condolences to the family of Sergeant Errol M. James who died in Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. James, whose family resides on St. Croix, died of injuries sustained in a non-combat related incident. He was assigned to the 527th Military Police Company, 709th Military Police Battalion, Grafenwoehr Germany.

"On behalf of my family and our Virgin Islands community, I offer condolences to Sergeant James’ family and friends. The loss of a loved one is always difficult to bear, especially when the death is unexpected. The Virgin Islands has lost another young man who sought out a career in the Armed Forces and was doing his part to protect the freedoms we all enjoy as American citizens," deJongh said.

Sgt. James came to St. Croix from his native Anguilla and later joined the U.S. Army. At the time of his death, he resided in Germany.

DeJongh has been in West Virginia since the end of last week attending the 74th annual meeting of the Southern Governor’s Association. He returns to the territory today.
