GOVERNOR DEJONGH OFFERS CONDOLENCES TO FAMILY OF RETIRED POLICE SERGEANT LISTON GUMBS Governor John P. deJongh, Jr. Monday night expressed his sympathies to the family, friends and colleagues of retired police Sergeant Liston Gumbs. Sgt. Gumbs died as the result of injuries sustained during a robbery at a grocery store on St. Thomas Monday afternoon. DeJongh said the loss of Sgt. Gumbs’ leaves not only a void in the lives of his loved ones but is a loss to the law enforcement community. "Sgt. Gumbs was well-trained and well-versed in the field of police forensics. After more than 20 years of service to the community, Sgt. Gumbs was about to return to the V.I.P.D. to assist in the training of officers on the force." DeJongh appealed to the community to assist the V.I. Police Department in providing information that could lead to the apprehension of this and other unsolved crimes in the territory. Acting Police Commissioner Novelle E. Francis, Jr. on Monday night authorized the offering of a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the person(s) involved in the robbery and shooting. |
