GOVERNMENT HOUSE POSTS DIAGEO AGREEMENT RELATED MATERIALS ON GOVERNOR’S WEBSITE; INVITES PUBLIC REVIEW AND COMMENT

Government House announced Monday that following last week’s formal submittal of the Diageo agreement to the 27th Legislature, the documents which detail the proposed 30-year agreement between the Virgin Islands Government and Diageo are now available for public review on the Government House website, www.GovernordeJongh.com.

"In keeping with the commitment of Governor deJongh to maintain transparency in government, it was decided that once the formal transmittal of the enabling legislation and the proposed agreement between GVI and Diageo was made to the 27th Legislature, the documents would be available for public review and comment," said Government House Communications Director Jean P. Greaux, Jr.

The documents including: the proposed agreement, the proposed legislation to enact the agreement, an economic analysis of the agreement and a document summarizing the agreement will be posted to the website by 8 p.m. Monday. "Already on the site are several other documents pertaining to the GVI-Diageo agreement including: The Governor’s Address to the territory of June 23 in which he announced the agreement; remarks of Delegate to Congress Donna Christensen and DIAGEO’s David Gosnell at a June 25 press conference on St. Croix. The Governor’s Address is also available in Spanish, Greaux said.

"This public-private partnership developed by the Administration and Diageo is of extreme importance to the future financial stability of the Virgin Islands and I encourage everyone in the public to read through the documents on my website and learn more about the landmark initiative and the potential it holds for the Virgin Islands," Governor John P. deJongh, Jr. said.
