GOVERNOR TRAVELS TO WASHINGTON, D.C. FOR MEETINGS AND LATER TO CHICAGO FOR MEETINGS WITH DEMOCRATIC PRESIDENTIAL NOMINEE BARACK OBAMA

Governor John P. deJongh, Jr. departed the Virgin Islands Monday afternoon for Washington, D.C. where he will meet for two days this week with members of the U.S. Congress including V.I. Delegate Donna Christian Christensen. The governor will follow up on earlier conversations which focused on economic development initiatives for the Territory and continued funding for various capital projects including a revamped 911 communications system. 

On Thursday, deJongh travels to Chicago to take part in a dinner hosted by Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama. After becoming the presumed Democratic nominee for President, Senator Obama invited the Democratic governors to a dinner with him in Chicago. Following meetings with Obama on Friday morning, deJongh returns to the Virgin Islands.

In his absence and in accordance with provisions of the Revised Organic Act of 1954, as amended, Lt. Governor Gregory R. Francis will serve as Acting Governor.
