OFFICE OF THE GOVERNOR REMINDS COMMUNITY OF DEADLINE FOR VOTING FOR VIRGIN ISLANDS COMMEMORATIVE QUARTER DESIGN

Gov. John P. deJongh, Jr. is reminding the general public that the deadline for community input on the selection of a design for the Virgin Islands Commemorative Quarter ends today, Friday, June 13, 2008. Paper ballot should be received at Government House no later than 5:00 p.m. today in order to be included in the final tally, and electronic voting will end at midnight tonight.

The selection process began on May 22, 2008, and the lasted three weeks, concluding today. At the end of the selections process Government House will tabulate the results of the vote and will forward a final design to The United States Mint based on the votes of the community and the final approval of the Selections Committee.

To date, over 12,000 ballots have been cast for a Virgin Islands Commemorative Quarter design, including thousands of votes cast at the Governor’s web site.

Governor deJongh thanked the Virgin Islands Commemorative Quarter Selections Committee for their efforts in guiding this important and historic process, and applauded the contributions of the thousands of participants who voted in this process. Governor deJongh also thanked Delegate Donna Christian Christiansen for her leadership in the United States House of Representatives in sponsoring the legislation that enabled this great honor.
