GOVERNOR PROCLAIMS SAFETY MONTH IN THE U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS Gov. John P. deJongh, Jr. has proclaimed the month of June 2008 as “Safety Month” in the United States Virgin Islands. Safety Month, which is themed "Make a Difference," is dedicated to increasing awareness on injury and accident prevention in homes, the workplace, transportation, and in general, the community. Dedicated public servants in law enforcement, fire departments and Emergency Medical Services are at work 24/7 to protect residents and visitors. Safety and accident prevention are key components contributing to an improved quality of life. The safety and security of residents and their families are top concerns of the National Safety Council, which was founded in 1913 and chartered by the United States Congress "to arouse the Nation … in safety and accident prevention … and enlist cooperation between all persons and organizations in the pursuit of improved safety and health." |
