GOVERNOR PLEASED WITH ARRESTS AND WEAPONS CONFISCATION DURING JOINT FEDERAL-LOCAL OPERATION ON ST. CROIX THURSDAY

Governor John P. deJongh, Jr. said Thursday he was gratified by the news that through the dedication of the local law enforcement community and in cooperation with federal law enforcement partners four persons have been taken into custody on drug and illegal weapons charges.

“Officers of the Virgin Islands Police Department, working with agents of the FBI, Drug Enforcement Administration, US Marshals and the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Task Force launched an aggressive law enforcement initiative yesterday and acting on both tips from the community and police intelligence, the four suspects were taken into custody and are now detained in a federal prison.” In addition, DeJongh said, a deadly assault rifle was recovered during today’s operations which took place in two locations on St. Croix.

“I extend my deepest appreciation to the local and federal law enforcement community for its unwavering effort and dedication to their work which has led to this positive development in the ongoing investigation into the assault on the community we witnessed on Wednesday.”

DeJongh also commended those members of the community who have come forward with key information in this investigation. “I thank you on behalf of our greater community. It is only when we tackle the challenge of crime together and head-on that favorable results are seen.”

Finally, DeJongh encouraged any and all members in our community who have any information at all to contact the police at once. “No matter how insignificant that information may seem to you, it may be the key to resolving this and other unsolved crimes,” deJongh said.
