NATIONAL TOURISM WEEK AND TOURISM MONTH PROCLAIMED IN THE UNITED STATES VIRGIN ISLANDS Gov. John P. deJongh, Jr. proclaimed the month of May 2008 as "Tourism Month," and the week of May 10-18, 2008 as “National Tourism Week,” to raise the level of tourism awareness among residents of the community and to recognize the many economic, educational, and recreational benefits of tourism. This year’s theme of "Discover Great American Traditions" hopes to promote the power of travel, and to highlight the cultural and social benefits created by travel and tourism. This year’s goal is to promote a broader understanding of travel and tourism as a major industry and to note the vital role it plays in our territory’s economic stability and growth. Tourism contributes substantially to the cultural and social well-being of our people. Travel and tourism provides rewarding educational and economic opportunities for all residents. The travel and tourism industry is responsible, directly or indirectly, for hundreds of businesses and thousands of jobs in the Territory, resulting in millions of dollars circulating in our economy. It is important that we treat our visitors with great care, ensure that they enjoy their stay, leave with a positive image, and hope they do repeat visits to the Territory. |
