GOVERNOR DEJONGH PROCLAIMS WEEK OF THE YOUNG CHILD IN THE UNITED STATES VIRGIN ISLANDS Gov. John P. deJongh, Jr. has proclaimed April 13-19, as "Week of the Young Child" in the United States Virgin Islands in conjunction with the Department of Education, the Virgin Islands Early Childhood Association and the National Association for the Education of Young Children. The youth are the future of our Territory, and it is fitting that the theme for 2008 is "Bring Communities Together for Children, Children Bring Communities Together." Regardless of their background, our youth deserve the opportunity to be loved and nurtured by all, and not separated or isolated from the rest of society. As a community and nation we must harness and channel the potential energy of our youth, not only for their benefit, but for the benefit of our society. It is important that we love our children, teach them manners and respect for others, and help them to develop socially and professionally. High quality early childhood services represent a worthy commitment to our children’s future. Moreover, the intent of "Week of the Young Child" is to focus the much needed attention and to support our youth and heighten awareness of their talents and abilities enabling them the opportunity to reach their full potential. |
