TRANSFER DAY CEREMONIES SCHEDULED FOR MONDAY, MARCH 31ST

On Monday, March 31st, the Virgin Islands will mark the 91st anniversary of the transfer of the Territory from Danish to American rule. The public is invited to be a part of this observance which will be marked by ceremonies, beginning at 3 p.m., on the grounds of the V.I. Legislature and a gospel concert on Sunday, March 30. 

"By coming together each year to mark this occasion, we shape a greater awareness of our Danish heritage," Governor John P. deJongh Jr. said in announcing the schedule of events for the Transfer Day observance. "Transfer day provides us the opportunity to pay tribute to the special relationship which exists between Denmark and the U.S. Virgin Islands, a relationship steeped in historical, cultural and educational programs and exchanges," deJongh added. The ceremony will include remarks, musical selections and will be highlighted by the symbolic lowering of the Dannebrog and the raising of the American flag. 

As part of the observance of Transfer Day, deJongh and Lt. Governor Gregory Francis invite the public to a “Grand Gospel Gala” on Sunday, March 30 at Emancipation Garden. The concert, which begins at 3 p.m., will feature the Seventh Day Adventist Unlimited Praise, Unified Prayze, American Legion Chorale, Caribbean Chorale, Global Life Anointed Dancers, Salvation Army Choir, Faith Alive In Christ Choir, New Vision Youth Choir, Christ Church Methodist Youth Choir, BCB Middle School Choir, Ivanna Eudora Kean High Choir, Leonard Dober School Choir and Orchestra, Assembly of God, Word of Faith International Choir.
