GOVERNOR EXTENDS CONDOLENCES TO FAMILY AND FRIENDS OF FORMER POLICE COMMISSIONER OTIS L. FELIX AND COLVILLE “BAPO” LEWIS

Before departing the territory for Washington, D.C. on Monday afternoon, Governor John P. deJongh, Jr. extended condolences to the family of former Police Commissioner and Senator Otis L. Felix who died on February 22, 2008.

“I had the opportunity to speak personally with Mr. Felix’s daughter, Priscilla Webster, and extended our sympathies on behalf of the people of the Virgin Islands,” deJongh said Monday night, adding, “Commissioner Felix, in many regards, set the ground work for the success of the Virgin Islands Police Department at a time when the agency was combined with other emergency responders as the Department of Public Safety.”

Felix served two terms as Police Commissioner from 1962-1969 and again from 1980-1985. Otis Felix also served as a member of the V.I. Legislature for three years from 1975-1978.

DeJongh also said Monday he was saddened to learn of the death of Colville “Bapo” Lewis, “a fine gentleman who spent countless years in government service. “Bapo” Lewis worked for years in the Congressional office of former Delegate to Congress Ron de Lugo and in service to the Democratic Party of the Virgin Islands. “It is important that we take note of the tireless efforts and dedicated work of public servants such as Mr. Lewis.”

Cecile joins me and a grateful Virgin Islands community in extending our profound sympathies to the family of both Otis L. Felix and Colville “Bapo” Lewis, deJongh said.
