GOVERNOR TRAVELS TO WASHINGTON, D.C. FOR MEETINGS WITH CONGRESSIONAL LEADERS AND TO CONFER ALEXANDER HAMILTON PUBLIC SERVICE AWARDS

Governor John P. deJongh Jr. departed the territory Monday afternoon for Washington, D.C. where he will participate in two days of meetings with Congressional leaders in both the U.S. Senate and the House and Representatives. Also on Tuesday, deJongh will present the 2008 Alexander Hamilton Public Service Award to U.S. Senators John D. Rockefeller IV (D-WV) and Orrin Hatch (R-Utah). Tuesday, February 26 has been proclaimed as “Virgin Islands Day” in the nation’s capitol. 

In deJongh’s absence and in accordance with the Revised Organic Act of 1954, as amended, Lt. Governor Gregory R. Francis will serve as Acting Governor. DeJongh returns to the territory by the end of the week.
