DEJONGH DENOUNCES VANDALISM AND APPARENT ARSON ON CAMPUS OF EDUCATIONAL COMPLEX Gov. John P. deJongh, Jr. on Tuesday condemned the actions of vandals who struck the campus at the St. Croix Education Complex and by an act of apparent arson, destroyed the school’s administrative office area. "This is yet another attempt, by those with no regard for the value of education, to disrupt the learning of hundreds of Virgin Islands school children," deJongh said. In denouncing the actions of the perpetrators, deJongh said that this wanton act of vandalism and arson will not be tolerated. "What were destroyed were the critical resources for the daily running of the school. These actions have caused a setback for students, teachers, faculty and staff at the Complex." DeJongh has been in touch with the Acting Commissioner of Education Dr. LaVerne Terry as well as Fire Services Director Victor Browne and Property and Procurement Commissioner Lynn Millin Maduro to coordinate the Administration’s efforts in lessening the impact of this event on the education of students enrolled at Education Complex. "The community can rest assured that we will get to the bottom of this and find out who is responsible and bring them to justice. In the meantime, we must work as quickly as possible to rebuild the facilities at the school so that the education of our children will not be unduly interrupted." DeJongh urged everyone in the community to share whatever they know with police and the other authorities so that we can find out exactly who damaged this school over this holiday weekend and prevent any more such actions in the future. |
