NATIONAL ENGINEERS WEEK PROCLAIMED IN THE U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS

Gov. John P. deJongh, Jr. has proclaimed the week of February 17-23, 2008, as “National Engineers Week” in the United States Virgin Islands. National Engineers Week is always celebrated during the week of our first president, George Washington’s, birthday because he was a prominent engineer, specializing in military and agricultural engineering.

National Engineers Week was founded in 1951 by the National Society of Professional Engineers to increase public awareness and appreciation of the engineering profession. The important efforts of engineers help drive our economy, protect our environment and ensure public safety.

The United States Virgin Islands is proud of the key role engineers have played in the development of the infrastructure and economy of our community. They have helped America to remain at the forefront of technological development and have contributed to countless breakthroughs that improve the quality of life for people throughout the world.

Gov. deJongh asks all Virgin Islanders to join him in saluting members of the engineering profession during National Engineers Week.
