GOVERNOR PROCLAIMS FBLA-PBL WEEK IN THE U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS Gov. deJongh has proclaimed the week of February 10–16, 2008 as “Future Business Leaders of America-Phi Beta Lambda Week” in the United States Virgin Islands. The Future Business Leaders of America-Phi Beta Lambda (FBLA-PBA) is a non-profit educational organization whose first chapter was established in Johnson City, Tennessee in 1942 and in the U.S. Virgin Islands in 1973. The organization has since grown into an honored national organization encompassing an estimated 450 members and advisers in the U.S. Virgin Islands and over 250,000 members and advisers nationwide in middle schools, high schools, colleges, universities, career and technical schools and private business schools. FBLA teaches middle school and high school students basic business and leadership principles, while PBL helps university, college, technical and business school students to make the transition from school to work. FBLA-PBL members perform community service activities and strive to build a student’s understanding of the realities of the economic and technological changes in the business world. The great wealth of talent and energy among the young people of the U.S. Virgin Islands serves as a tremendous resource for future growth and enhancement of the territory. Gov. deJongh calls upon the people of the U.S. Virgin Islands to join him in saluting these young people and extending our sincere appreciation to their volunteer leaders. The governor also urges everyone to support the FBLA-PBL and to participate in the activities planned for this week. |
