Governor proclaims Catholic Schools week in the United States Virgin Islands

Gov. deJongh has proclaimed the week of January 27, through February 1, 2008 as Catholic Schools Week in the territory, in appreciation of the efforts and contributions of Catholic schools in the United States Virgin Islands, and in accordance with the national celebration taking place across the U.S. mainland and its territories. This year’s theme is "Catholic Schools Light the Way."

Catholic education was introduced in our territory in the mid-1800’s. Currently, there are four Catholic schools in the U.S. Virgin Islands: Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic School on St. Thomas and St. Mary, St. Patrick and St. Joseph Catholic Schools on St. Croix.

Catholic schools in the United States Virgin Islands have made many significant contributions to advance the intellectual standards of its students. Along with its teachers and Administrators, Catholic schools have helped to shape today’s students into tomorrow’s citizens by giving each student the best care and education possible.
