Governor deJongh proclaims Virgin Islands Lottery Week in the United States Virgin Islands Gov. deJongh has proclaimed the week of January 20 – 26, 2008, as Virgin Islands Lottery Week. On January 25, 2008, the Virgin Islands Lottery will celebrate the 70th Anniversary of the first drawing of the Virgin Islands "Traditional" lottery game. The Virgin Islands Lottery is the oldest, continuous, traditional lottery game in the United States. The revenues raised by the Virgin Islands Lottery support a large number of public purposes including the Education Initiative Fund, the Disabled Persons Fund, Small Business Fund, Education textbook system, veterans programs, summer youth employment and General Fund programs and projects. The Virgin Islands Lottery has provided not only employment for many residents of the Territory, but its revenues have allowed the Government to fund many services and projects for the betterment of residents of the Territory. |
