Governor acknowledges death of businessman Hans Stern Gov. John deJongh, Jr. has conveyed his condolences to the family of Hans Stern, founder of the H. Stern stores in the Virgin Islands. Stern died last Friday in Brazil. Stern developed the first of three fine jewelry stores in the Virgin Islands in 1964. Presently, there are two H. Stern stores in downtown Charlotte Amalie and one in Havensight. " I was saddened to learn of his passing," deJongh said. Beginning in the 1940’s, Stern developed his jewelry business which is today an international company employing more than 3,000 persons in over 70 cities around the world. "I express heartfelt condolences to the family of Hans Stern including his wife, Ruth, their sons and the employees of H. Stern Jewelers on the loss of a man who played a vital role in their lives," deJongh said. Stern was a frequent visitor to the Virgin Islands and made his last trip here in August 2006. |
