V.I Department of Agriculture's Urban and Community Forestry Assistance Program offers grants The Virgin Islands Department of Agriculture, Urban & Community Forestry (U&CF) Assistance Program announces the availability of grants for the 2007 Challenge Cost-Share program. Non-profit organizations, neighborhood associations, territorial government agencies and educational institutions operating within the U.S. Virgin Islands may apply for a grant. Grants require a 50-50 match to the amount requested from applicants. Awards will be allocated on a competitive basis until all funds are exhausted. Deadline for proposal submissions is November 2, 2007. The primary goal of the U&CF Assistance Program is to encourage citizen involvement in creating and supporting long-term and sustainable Urban & Community Forestry programs throughout the U.S. Virgin Islands. Urban Forestry activities include all of the practices undertaken by community members to plan for and ensure the conservation of existing native species as well as the establishment, maintenance, and protection of trees, green spaces and related natural resources within our urban settings. Proposal packets can be obtained at the Virgin Islands Department of Agriculture (St. Croix) or via the internet at www.viucf.org. Should any additional information be needed about obtaining a proposal packet or any general questions about the U&CF Assistance Program, please contact: Marilyn S. Chakroff, U&CF Coordinator |
