Educational leaders travel to Virgin Islands in support of Spampinato

In response to the nomination of Dr. Lynn Spampinato, several stateside educational leaders, who had previously worked with the nominee, volunteered to travel to the Virgin Islands and testify in support of her nomination.

Government House Communications Director, Jean P. Greaux, Jr. said Tuesday night that after the nomination of Dr. Spampinato, various educational leaders inquired as to whether there was anything they could do in support of the nomination.

"Government House advised these educators to testify before the Senate Rules Committee so the lawmakers would have the benefit of hearing from the persons who worked closely with the nominee in her previous positions in St. Louis and Philadelphia." Greaux said that assurances were made to these testifiers that their travel and hotel accommodations would be funded through private sector contributions. No government funds were expended towards that end.

During today’s confirmation hearing, several members of the 27th Legislature questioned whether government funds were used to pay the travel or other expenses of persons who testified in support of the nomination. The Spampinato nomination is in the first phase of the advice and consent process towards full Senate confirmation.
