Governor deJongh proclaims Fire Prevention Week in the United States Virgin Islands

Governor John P. deJongh, Jr. has proclaimed the week of October 7-13, as "Fire Prevention Week," in the United States Virgin Islands to highlight the importance of making fire safety a part of our daily life. The theme for this year is "Practice Your Escape Plan!"

This observance is being held to increase public awareness of the dangers and hazards of fires, and to teach life-saving lessons that will make a lifetime of difference for the entire territory. Each year lives are lost and millions of dollars in property damage occur as a result of fires.

We must be more alert and continue our efforts to build awareness in fire safety, including installing smoke and fire alert devices in our homes and businesses which could save lives and minimize property damage.
