Governor deJongh proclaims Disability Employment Awareness Month in the United States Virgin Islands

Governor John P. deJongh, Jr. has proclaimed the month of October as "Disability Employment Awareness Month," in the United States Virgin Islands in conjunction with states and territories across the nation. This year the nation celebrates its Sixty-Second anniversary of, "Disability Employment Awareness Month," observance.

The American with Disabilities Act (ADA) was enacted to protect the rights of persons with disabilities. The ADA sets the standard that Americans with disabilities are integral, contributing, productive, and valued citizens of our nation and this territory.

The territory is fully committed to the provisions of the ADA because we need the skills, talents and abilities of every citizen with disabilities. Empowerment, integration, employment and full inclusion of our citizens with disabilities is very important.
