Governor travels to Miami for meetings with cruise line officials

Gov. John deJongh Jr. departed the territory Wednesday afternoon to participate in two days of meetings with representatives of various cruise lines whose ships presently make port calls in the Virgin Islands. The meetings are scheduled for Thursday and Friday in Miami, Florida.

"I envision open and frank discussions with the representatives of Royal Caribbean International and Carnival Corporation about the Virgin Islands remaining a premier cruise ship destination in the Caribbean," deJongh said.

During the governor’s absence from the territory and in accordance with the Revised Organic Act of 1954 as amended, Lt. Gov. Gregory R. Francis will serve as Acting Governor. DeJongh returns to the territory at the end of the week.
