Governor deJongh proclaims Rotary Day
and Rotary Week
Gov. John P. deJongh, Jr. has proclaimed October 2, 2007 as
“Rotary Day,” and October 7-14, 2007 as “Rotary Week,” in the Virgin Islands in honor of the 50th anniversary of the Rotary Club of St. Thomas. Rotary Club of St. Thomas was established in 1957 to provide humanitarian service and build goodwill in our communities and abroad.
The Rotary Club of St. Thomas will be celebrating its 50th anniversary on October 2, 2007. ROTARY is now a global network of over 28,000 community-based clubs, with a world membership of over 1.2 million persons.
Rotarians are professional men and women who work as volunteers to improve the quality of life in the community, their workplace, and throughout the world, providing assistance for projects that improve health, alleviate hunger, and enhance human and social development.
This noteworthy organization has initiated many community projects designed to address critical issues, including violence, drug abuse, and illiteracy, which many of our young people face today. The Rotary Clubs in the Virgin Islands have contributed greatly to making the Territory a better place to live with their humanitarian
projects. |
