Governor names DeLone to UVI Research and Tech Park Board of Directors Governor John P. deJongh Jr. has appointed Dr. Bill DeLone to serve on the Board of Directors for the UVI Research and Technology Park. DeLone brings an extensive and global background to the UVI Research and Technology Park Board. With 37 years of key expertise in information technology systems, as well as in senior administrative and management academic positions at UVI and at the American University, DeLone possesses the requisite knowledge and necessary leadership to help guide and direct this Virgin Islands facility. "As an expert on Information Technology success models, Dr. DeLone has a well-earned place of distinction in global information systems management. His work in developing and expanding information technology for small and medium-sized businesses echoes this Administration’s focus on economic development, and his academic and practical experience in communications technology is exceptional," deJongh said. "Dr. DeLone brings to RTPark the added advantage of having previously served alongside the President of UVI on the Research and Technology Park project, and therefore, is well acquainted with the objectives it is to service in not just facilitating economic diversification of our economy, but building the capacity in our workforce to be a part of this endeavor. I am extremely pleased to that he has accepted this appointment," deJongh added. DeLone has published extensively on I-T and communications systems management, and has detailed strategies for progress and success in the field at an international level. As a highly regarded researcher, administrator, professor, writer, and active international lecturer, DeLone will contribute to the Board of Directors of the UVI Research and Technology Park by bringing forward a dynamic and far-reaching understanding of I-T systems. "The Governor continues to highlight his commitment to developing the capacity and functionality of UVI’s Research and Technology Park and has spoken many times on the need to provide increased opportunities and flexibilities for entrepreneurs and businesses throughout the Virgin Islands. I look forward to assisting in this initiative by working alongside the other members of this Board in the day-to-day and long-term strategic planning of this important body," DeLone said. "I am greatly honored to have been selected to serve in this capacity and would like to thank Governor deJongh for his confidence in me." DeLone is currently Director for the Center for Information Technology and the Global Economy at the Kogod School of Business. In this capacity, he has recruited Marriott, General Motors, The World Bank, Freddie Mac, SAP, the American Red Cross, and Constellation Energy to financially sponsor the Center’s applied research. Previously, as Acting Dean of the business school, DeLone was responsible for leading faculty and staff, as well as undergraduate and graduate business students with a budget of $24 million. In addition, DeLone successfully co-wrote a proposal to the federal government to create and fund the V.I. Small Business Development Center and is a recognized presenter on I-T related topics internationally. DeLone earned a B.S. in Mathematics from Villanova University; an M.S. in Industrial Administration from Carnegie-Mellon University; and a Ph.D. in Computers and Information Systems from the University of California, Los Angeles. |
