Governor deJongh proclaims Virgin Islands-Puerto Rico Friendship Day and Hispanic Heritage Month in the United States Virgin Islands Gov. John P. deJongh, Jr. has proclaimed September 15 to October 15 as "Hispanic Heritage Month," and October 8, as "Virgin Islands-Puerto Rico Friendship Day" in observance of the cultural ties that unite the people of the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico. This year is the 43rd anniversary of "Virgin Islands-Puerto Rico Friendship Day," with the theme "VI-PR Friendship-A Partnership for Success." We have been graced with the settlement in the Territory of a large number of natives of Puerto Rico who have been contributed significantly to the progress of the Virgin Islands. The residents of the Virgin Islands and the people of the Common Wealth of Puerto Rico have had a long, happy and friendly association. The close bond has been mutually beneficial to both the United States Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico. It is fitting and appropriate that we proudly call attention to, nurture, and commemorate the links of fellowship and friendship between our people. |
