VITEMA commends residents on emergency readiness, Says it’s not time to relax Steve Parris, Acting State Director of the Virgin Islands Territorial Emergency Management Agency (VITEMA), commends Virgin Islanders on their level of readiness for Hurricane Dean. He reminds residents, however, to remain vigilant through the remainder of the 2007 hurricane season. "Hurricane Dean was essentially a test run for the Virgin Islands," Acting Director Parris says. "Preparing for the storm gave us the opportunity to implement our emergency plans." Parris says hurricane and disaster preparedness is a continuous process. "Now that the storm has passed, we should all take the time to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of our emergency plans." Hurricane Dean was the first major storm of what is predicted to be an active hurricane season. VITEMA urges residents to replenish hurricane supplies and disaster kits in readiness for the next emergency. Persons who have not secured hurricane supplies or made preparations are advised to do so. VITEMA is available to assist with emergency planning.
