deJongh says PFA begins process to reconstruct Toror Building on St. Croix Gov. John deJongh, Jr. said Saturday that a timeline has been developed for the reconstruction of the Toro Building at Estate Orange Grove on St. Croix, as the future home of the V.I. Department of Justice. The first step in the process is the advertising for bids which will commence this week. "This development in the long-awaited reconstruction of the Toro Building will provide an economic stimulus for St. Croix and at the same time resolve the long-standing challenge of finding a permanent home for the V.I. Justice Department on St. Croix," deJongh said. The schedule further anticipates that a pre-bid conference and site walk-through will convene between the first two weeks in September and that bids will be received by the last two weeks of that month. After the receipt of bids, a selection committee comprised of representatives from the Justice, Public Works and Property and Procurement departments as well as the PFA will evaluate the bids and make a selection of the contractor, said PFA Director of Administration and Finance, Julito Francis. "The selection of a contractor is projected to be made by the middle of October with an actual construction contract being awarded and construction beginning by mid-November. deJongh, who by virtue of his position as Governor serves as Chairman of the PFA board of directors, said the project calls for a two-year project construction schedule once the selection, award and commencement of the reconstruction effort has taken place. |
