Governor forwards renewal of Group Medical Health Insurance Agreement to the 27th Legislature for review and consideration Gov. John deJongh, Jr. this week submitted for the Legislature’s consideration a proposed bill that if approved would ratify the first renewal of Group Medical Health Insurance Agreement. The agreement would provide medical insurance coverage for government employees and their dependents. Also submitted to the Senate was a copy of an amendment to the Agreement for Group Dental Health Insurance. Ratification of this agreement is not required for renewal since there was not a change in plan benefits. "The cost of medical and health insurance continues to rise throughout the United States and the Virgin Islands is not exception to his trend. In my judgment, the Health Insurance Board of Trustees has done an admirable job of minimizing the increased premium costs for both the Government and its employees," deJongh wrote in his transmittal correspondence to Senate President Usie Richards. DeJongh also pointed out that the renewal agreement provides coverage for certain WellAware items, such as pulmonary, depression and health pregnancy and babies. deJongh also said the Health Insurance Board and the Office of Management and Budget are conducting a further review of the increased costs, so that necessary adjustments can be made as part of the ongoing Fiscal Year 2007 budget process. |
