time has passed

today to officially open and launch the St. Croix chapter of
"Camp Shriver." Gov. John P. deJongh, Jr. was concurrently opening the St. Thomas-St. John chapter at the Mark C. Marin Center at Antilles School. Both the Governor and First Lady provided remarks to the children present, joining the Camp Directors and executive staff in celebrating the camp’s inauguration.

7/17/07 - Gov. John P. deJongh, Jr. this evening wished several persons injured in an incident at the V.I. Water and Power Authority Plant a speedy recovery. The incident, an explosion involving one of the largest generating units, catapulted the island-district into a complete blackout. WAPA officials continued the effort to restore electrical power.

Bill to restore statute of limitations for
V.I. taxpayers before U.S. House Committee
7/17/07 - The House Ways and Means committee is scheduled to consider legislation Wednesday restoring the statute of limitations for Virgin Islands taxpayers who file their income taxes exclusively with the Virgin Islands Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR). The Virgin Islands provision, which is retroactive to 1986, is part of a package of miscellaneous tax measures introduced by Rep. Charles Rangel, the Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee.

Abandoned Car Task Force zeroes in on Soto Town for big clean up this week

USVI physicians to be surveyed for statistical data
7/10/07 - During the months of July and August, physicians providing medical, dental and mental health care in the U.S. Virgin Islands will be contacted by the Primary Health Care Office (VIPCO) to complete a survey for the purpose of determining: 1) current ratios of primary health professionals with respect to the general population, 2) sliding fee scales for sites – such as private practices, clinics, health centers and hospitals, 3) the number of full time equivalent (FTE) hours for clinicians, and 4) anticipated future needs for sites.

Laverne Jones, just returned from competition in Europe and will be
taking part in “Laverne Jones Appreciation Day” on Saturday, July 7,
2007, a fundraiser to help defray the costs of medical expenses,
housing, food, transportation, and other training costs. The event runs
from 12 noon to 12 midnight at the Agriculture Fairgrounds on St. Croix
and will feature live music, local vendors, and other entertainment.
