Governor offers condolences on the death
of Alvin Morton
Gov. John deJongh, Jr. Monday offered condolences to the family of Alvin Morton on his untimely and tragic death this weekend. Morton was shot to death sometime late Friday night or early Saturday morning.
Gov. deJongh, who was on the U.S. mainland when he learned of Morton’s death, said he was
"deeply saddened at the passing of a dear friend." deJongh described Morton as a friend and supporter and a truly dedicated employee, a person that could be counted on to get the job done. Morton was employed at the Office of the Governor as an Assistant to St. Thomas-Water Island Administrator Barbara Petersen.
"Alvin was a point person for complaints from the public to my office. He would go out and see things before I
did," Petersen said.
"My wife, Cecile, joins me, the Government House staff and the people of the Virgin Islands in extending our sympathies to Alvin’s family. In the short time of his employment he proved to be an invaluable
asset," deJongh said. |
