Sanderilla Thomas Bungalow rededication ceremony on July 28th

Gov. John P. deJongh, Jr. and Agriculture Commissioner Louis E. Petersen invites the general public to the rededication of the Sanderilla Thomas Bungalow and Market Fair on Saturday, July 28, 2007, at the Rothschild Francis Square on St. Thomas from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

The rededication program will commence at 8:00 a.m. and the Market Fair from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. The rededication ceremony will be followed by cultural performances by: Milo’s Kings, the St. Thomas Heritage Dancers and the Market Woman Tribute by Mary Ann Christopher and Company. Farmers, fishermen and culture bearers will be selling fresh produce, fish and prepared cultural dishes.

The rededication ceremony will also mark the commemoration of a registry of names of tradition bearers associated with the Sanderilla Thomas Bungalow and the Rothschild Francis “Market” Square. All persons with information regarding market women and men, farmers and others who sold from the historic bungalow and square are invited to record such information following the ceremony. This registry is in collaboration with the Department of Planning and Natural Resources – State Historic Preservation Office, the Virgin Islands Cultural Heritage Institute and the Department of Education’s Cultural Education Division.
