deJongh names Rivera as Asst. CEO at Economic Development Authority

Benjamin Rivera Jr. has been appointed as the Assistant Chief Executive Officer of the Economic Development Authority. The appointment by Gov. John P. deJongh, Jr. took effect on Tuesday June 19. Rivera, a product of V.I. public and private education, obtained his Bachelor’s degree from Penn State University. He is also certified as a professional legal assistant.

"Mr. Rivera has been tremendously active in the St. Croix business community and involved in ensuring that the concerns of St. Croix and the U.S. Virgin Islands are properly communicated to both federal agencies and to those in the House and Senate", deJongh said Tuesday. Rivera’s advocacy for the business community will serve the government well in targeting and recruiting companies and ensuring a smooth transition of affairs, while at the same time making certain that their collective concerns and initiatives are presented within the public sector, deJongh added. "This experience will also serve us well in particular in building our small businesses and ensuring that their needs are addressed."

Prior to Tuesday’s appointment, Rivera was the Director of Product Development at Calabash Technologies, LLLP, where he was responsible for business development affairs while managing a dedicated team of research and content development professionals. Rivera has also served as Executive Director of the USVI Economic Alliance, a non-profit EDC Beneficiary Trade Association. He is a former Executive Assistant to the Labor Commissioner, General Manager of YWAC 93.5 FM, Human Resources Manager for Triangle Construction and Maintenance at HOVENSA and General Manager of DBC Corporation.

Rivera is a member of the Board of Directors and a former Executive Director of the St. Croix Chamber of Commerce. He is also holds membership on the Rotary Club of St. Croix and the Society for Human Resource Management.
