Governor congratulates Tim Duncan and San Antonio Spurs on fourth NBA Championship Title

Gov. John P. deJongh, Jr. Friday joined the entire Virgin Islands community and fans of the San Antonio Spurs in congratulating St. Croix native and NBA sensation Tim Duncan on his team’s fourth NBA championship. The championship title came Thursday night as the Spurs edged the Cleveland Cavaliers to mark a four-game sweep in the NBA finals.

"I congratulate Tim Duncan for the fine sportsmanship he and his teammates displayed in both the Western Conference Finals and the NBA finals," deJongh said. Tim Duncan has developed into the stoic and selfless foundation of the Spurs and on Thursday night the emotions ran high as he so adequately pointed out, "It’s unbelievable and it never gets old."

DeJongh said Friday he looks forward to honoring Tim Duncan’s success. "We are truly proud of Tim Duncan, the Spurs common denominator, who leads his team by examples of: discipline, dedication and diligence and we will plan appropriate ceremonies to show our appreciation."

Congratulations to the Spurs on their fourth NBA championship title!
