deJongh declares June 12th a Legal Holiday to facilitate Special Election for Constitutional Convention delegates

Gov. John P. deJongh, Jr. today proclaimed Tuesday, June 12, 2007 a legal holiday in the Virgin Islands in order to facilitate the Special Election scheduled for that day to elect delegates to the Fifth Constitutional Convention.

In a proclamation issued Thursday, deJongh noted that it is of utmost importance that the people of the Virgin Islands participate in the election of the delegates to the Fifth Constitutional Convention. "The people elected to this constitutional convention will be tasked with an enormous responsibility to the community of the Virgin Islands.  We, as a territory, cannot continue to operate without our own constitution and guidelines.  I look forward to working with those who are elected and wish all who run good luck."  deJongh declared the holiday in an effort to eliminate any impediments to the election of delegates to the Fifth Constitutional Convention.

deJongh called upon all residents of the Virgin Islands to participate in this important electoral process.
