deJongh proclaims "Hurricane Awareness Month" Gov. John P. deJongh, Jr. has proclaimed the month of June 2007 as "Hurricane Awareness Month". The U.S. Virgin Islands are situated between the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea and are extremely vulnerable to the effects of hurricanes formed in these bodies of water. Hurricanes are natural disasters which have the potential to wreak significant loss of life and limb, while causing substantial property and economic damage wherever they strike. |
