deJongh proclaims National Women's Health Week in the U.S. Virgin Islands

Governor John P. deJongh, Jr. has proclaimed May 14-May 20, "National Women’s Week," and May 17, "Women’s & Girls Health Mentorship Day," in the United States Virgin Islands. National Women’s Health Week has been initiated in the dawn of the new Millennium by a coalition of public and private organizations dedicated to raising awareness of women’s health issues.

From that day forward National Women’s Health Week has occurred in the spring with an annual celebration held the week following Mother’s Day. It celebrates the efforts of national, local and community organizations working with partners and volunteers to improve awareness of key women’s health issues.

The Virgin Islands Commission on the Status of Women has selected May 17, to be Women’s & Gifts Health Membership Day, which will be celebrated with a ceremony at Schneider Regional Medical Center, St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands to officially launch this nationally recognized day.
