Governor approves exclusive franchise for ferry service between St. Thomas and St. Croix

Gov. John P. deJongh, Jr. signed legislation into law on Thursday which grants an exclusive franchise to Aquatic Management, LLC d/b/a V.I. Sea Trans to provide public passenger marine ferry service between St. Thomas and St. Croix.

In a transmittal to Senate President Usie Richards on Thursday the Chief Executive said, "This step is taken to provide Virgin Islanders with another option for travel between the island districts, with the aim of lowering fares by introducing additional competition to such travel."

Bill 27-0012 was passed by the 27th Legislature on April 18, 2007, the legislation was forwarded to Government House on April 30, 2007. The measure became Act 6918 today.
