deJongh grants Carnival leave

Gov. John deJongh, Jr. has granted administrative leave to non-essential government employees to encourage greater participation of the 55th Carnival Anniversary.

In the St. Thomas-St. John District only, employees will be granted administrative leave from noon until 5 p.m. on Wednesday April 25 to participate in the annual cultural fair and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday April 26 the day of J’ouvert and the V.I. Calypso Competition.

Non-essential government employees in the two districts: St. Thomas-St. John and St. Croix will be granted administrative leave from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, April 27, the day of the Children’s Parade and Carnival horse races.

The administrative leave granted does not apply to essential employees and workers on a regular or rotating shift.

Also, The Fort Christian Parking Lot is closed from now until the week after Carnival to facilitate the 2007 Carnival Village dubbed "Bolo’s Music Studio" honoring musician Sergio "Bolo" Feliciano.
